This here is a table containing the syllabical symbols of Neo-Destroy (formally referred to as "sonics"), the setting in which my novel "Mechamera" is set in.
To clarify, In Mechamera's setting, Neo-Destroy is a barbaric world in its purest form, therefore, they share one unified written language. However, it is symbolical, like egyptian hieroglyphics, and requires intimate understanding of the spoken language to fill in the gaps of the written Syllables. Such symbols can be divided into multiple categories, however, we are still deciphering most of them. These are the ones that we have a concrete "anything" to say about, with a few more to come in the future.
Symbol | Pronunciation | Meaning |
---|---|---|
![]() |
Vol (Vo.Lé) |
This symbol denotes incompletion and meaninglessness. It is usually a syllable given to bastard children or inserted into a person's name as a form of defamation. Those who bear the 'Von' syllable are cursed with horrible fortune, according to common folklore in the northern regions of NEO-DESTROY. |
![]() |
Abra (Ab.Rah) |
This symbol denotes completion and eternity. It is the standard syllable used in all names, commonly found at the very start of a name syllable combination. In an informal circumstance, the 'Abra' syllable is simply omitted from verbal conversation, however, in a formal situation, the speaker is required to verbalise the syllable when addressing a person who is physically stronger (Example: Abra Milo) |
![]() |
Don (Do.Né) |
This symbol denotes Resolve. It is a syllable given to people with exceptional vigor at birth, signified by hospitalizing the mother from the fifth month of pregnancy due to the fetus' excessively powerful kicking. Such people are a rarity, often believed to be a blessing from a God of combat in certain mid-eastern denominations, and usually climb the social hierarchy of strength effortlessly. |
![]() |
Donkon (Do.Né.Kon) |
First variation of the previously described syllable. Given to those whose were born with a natural amound of vigor that increased to remarkable degrees with age. The cause of this vigor mutation is currently unknown, with several hyptheses circulating among researchers. (Some claim it is hereditary, while some believe it is caused by enduring severe environmental conditions). |
![]() |
Donkamon (Don.Ka.Moan) |
Second variation of the 'Don' Syllable. This Syllable has not seen much use for the last three hundred or so years. Although completely absent from modern naming conventions, the 'Donkamon' is used exclusively when referring to the mythological God of combat, Abra Xidonkamon, in mid-eastern denominations and seen as heretical to mention, let alone use, in any other scenario. |
![]() |
Donshinmon (Don.Shy.Na.Moan) |
Third Variation of the 'Don' Syllable. Classified as a cursed Syllable, much like 'Von', Given to a person who killed their own mother from inside the womb due to overwhelming internal damage. Although extremely few and far in between, the bearers of this Syllable have been historically known for causing an irreversable change to the era in which they are born. There currently exists a single human on NEO-DESTROY bearing this monicker. |
![]() |
Cleo (KLay.O) |
This symbol denotes seduction and beauty. Often used in names to bless their bearer with everlasting youth and elegance. Hilariously, most bearers of this monicker are notorious for being hideous. Few exceptions do exist, however, those being "Cleohina Yoju" (Female, high priestess of the [redacted] denomination and first bearer of the Syllable) and "Archimedes Cleophentahime" (Male, Leader of the 'Demonic Peace and Salvation Cause' and an exceptionally handsome man) |
![]() |
Denhol (Den.Hole) |
The origin of this Syllable is shrouded in mystery, with its only bearers being the members of the 'Codenholler' blood family. When asked about its meaning, the head of the family, Alexander Codenholler, alleged as such: "Where I was from, it was once a monicker given to sinners, like a verbal branding iron wielded by the devil. Of course, all of that is pure, trite bullshit. That syllable never had any meaning and it doesn't deserve to have any, nowadays." |
![]() |
Dai (Die) |
This symbol denotes struggle. The meaning of this Syllable varies depending on who you ask, but more often than not, it refers to the hope of surviving against all odds and achieving a greater purpose. It is commonly used to address notable historical and religious figures of the distant past, in order to honor their world-changing struggle. It is also a common Syllable in names that is omitted post-mortem if the bearer never underwent a meaningful struggle. |
![]() |
Phenta (Fe.N.Tah) |
This symbol denotes observation and protection. Due to being a relatively modern Syllable, it isn't given at birth, but rather used as a monicker to address any kind of guardian, from a parental figure to a security officer. (Example: Phenta Dailana) |
![]() |
Hime (Hy.M) |
Similar to 'Phenta', this Syllable denotes observation. However, unlike the previous one's blatantly well-meaning interpretation, Hime is a more general, neutral term. Often used to refer to a regular spectator. |
![]() |
Corna (Kor.Nah) |
Unique symbol exclusive to the Memory Chimera. Bears no meaning other than her black horn iconography. |
![]() |
Cokarna (Kow.Kar.Nah) |
Unique Symbol exclusive to the Logic Chimera. Bears no meaning other than her sister's black horn iconography. |
![]() |
Corshina |
Unique symbol exclusive to the Judgement Deity. Used to denote a force that balances all that is good and evil fairly. No bearer currently exists as of writing this entry. |
![]() |
Archim (Ark.Em) |
This symbol's origin is shrouded in mystery, with only one man alive bearing it. Interviews with Archimedes Cleophentahime yielded no meaningful results other than elaborate descriptions of historically accurate ship models. |
![]() |
Cule (Qu.L) |
This symbol denotes imprisonment. This syllable isn't normally given as a name, but as time begins to morph and change, name bearers became more and more needlessly creative. |
![]() |
Myzen (My.Zen) |
This symbol is of utmost notoriety among humans. It is the correct syllable to associate with the demons that roam the world. It is the name of their species, so there are no bearers of this syllable aside from one peculiar individual. However, efforts to track them down yielded no returns. |
![]() |
Arbuga (R.Byou.Ga) |
This symbol refers to pregnancy. The sylllable started flaoting around human vocabulary about five hundred thousand years ago to refer to a Deity of Fertility and Womanhood dubbed 'Abra Arbugadon'. Often, the pregnant women of that time period were refered to as 'Arbuga Ode Mergi', which roughly translates to 'Blessed by Arbuga'. However, as time progressed, it was simply shortened to just the one syllable. |
![]() |
Jineyi(Ji.Ne.Yee) |
This symbol to the act of sinning, or in certain context, sinners in general. This syllable's origin goes all the way back to the Ashen Era of NEO-DESTROY, in the form of a poem that weaved the tale of the supposed origin of the Myzen. The exact details of the poem were lost to time, but there exist many different interpretations through the many cultures of the world. Most commonly, the tale would revolve around two male snakes who conspire behind the back whichever God that culture believes in and eat 'the fruit of creation' (which is portrayed as that culture's signature fruit) and give birth to the egg of the first ever Myzen. The story ends with the Godly entity casting their fury upon the snakes, killing them and casting their spawn into the mortal world. This subject matter is a heavy source of contention among the humans. |
![]() |
Beelzebub (Be.Yal.Ze.Bab) |
This symbol has no meaning. Upon interviewing Cleohina Yoju regarding why she gave her daughter, 'Beelzebub Yoju', an unheard of syllable, she had this to say: "Well, darling, I don't feel all too comfortable telling you where I got the word itself from, it's a family secret, after all. However, I can tell you that you're right in that the, uhh, 'sonic', as you called it, is my creation. I had to teach her how to write her name, but neither I nor anyone else knew how 'Beelzebub' would be spelled, so I got a little creative and whipped that up!" |
![]() |
Parak (Pa.Rak) |
This symbol is used to refer to Parasites and other sickness-inducing insects. Notably, there exists a species of parasitic leeches called 'Parak Av Gni' meaning 'Parasite of dirt' that mainly target 'Digging Sunshippers' who then go on to nibble on tree roots and earth-grown vegetables and fruits and infect them with diseases. |
![]() |
Mokobai (Mo.Ko.Bye) |
This symbol denotes Disgust, sludge, vomit, and sometimes the face of a person's mother-in-law after a night of a hardcore night of binge drinking. We have yet to verify the legitimacy of that last one. |

Unknown |
This symbol is seen frequently in demon-infested location, always drawn on the remaining ashes of a slain demon. It is suspected that it is a tradition among Demons and Chimeras, as a form of farewell to the deceased and prayer for a better lot in their next life. Despite many interviews, no one knows the pronunciation of this Syllable. "It's a symbol for the spirit to understand, not the mortal eye" an elder Demon claimed. |
